What does Layered curly hair look like?

So i have sortof like Looose ringlets but there still sorta tight..probably like half way bettweern loose and tight....but its like flat on the top with no curl? ... i want to layer my ahir and i was wondering if it will look alright and if theres away to add volume to the top of my head coz i dont like it itting flat ( naturally) ... and short or long layers? .... i dont speak hairstylist so ill feel abit weird if i dont know what i want at the hairdsresser thanks ....... ( my hair is like in my profile picture thingo)
